I operate through Regenerative Medicine Institute Ltd and Skinfresh Ltd

BUYING PRODUCTS DIRECT

Prompted by the impacts of Covid- 19 I have set up an online platform for product sales to meet a recognised need of my patients and make it easier for them to access products that I have found to be helpful in th one place.

My research has caused me to prefer products derived from natural sources in addition to surgery and drug therapy (my conventional training) .

These products do not have FDA or Pharmac approval and because of the way the ingredients are sourced are not subject to the rigour of manufacturing and safety checks as products approved by those agencies.

However, the products offerred are sourced from high standard, large established manufacturers.

All patients should feel free to buy their products from wherever they wish.  As we know from seeing what happens when Pharmac substitutes one drug for a generic alternative although chemically the same, the substitute can cause new side-effects or not work as well for some people.

There is no compulsion or expectation that you will purchase through the website or clinic

WHY I HAVE RECOMMENDED A PRODUCT

I will have recommended a product because in my view it is clinically indicated. My assesssment of each patients situation involves correcting any nutritional and biochemical deficiencies. Then scientifically researched corrective treatment is applied whether is be diet, lifestyle, vitmains, minerals, oils, herbs or hormones.

This treatment is individualised to each patient. Why the treatment is suggested is explained during the consultation and its offerred only if safe and appropriate.

POTENTIAL FOR CONFLICT OF INTEREST

My obligation as a doctor is to always put patient’s interests ahead of the clinic. When a doctor recommends and sells products there is an unavoidable risk of conflict.

I have put in place all the safeguards I can think of. This is to ensure that when offering this retail service what we do is as ethically and morally as possible. One part of the safeguards is to publically identify and acknowledge the potential for conflict and encourage external and internal continuous reflection on this risk. Whenever we meet I inform you of other websites and places to access products. All this so that you make informed decisions at every step of the way

Managing potential conflicts

To address this potential conflict I have the following systems:

  • I keep the retail and medical part of the practice separate.
  • I do not receive reporting information on what is being sold or what is not being sold, or what is being reordered. My information is confined to looking at what happens for each individual.
  • The risk of a profit motive has been removed. With advice from the practice accountant the cost of selling products has been assessed. The price you pay is calculated from the price the products are sold to me at plus the cost of supply which includes overhead, staff, training and stock redundancies due to expiry.
  • From time to time I ask our accountant to review the cost of the product sales.
  • I am involved in researching and making decisions on what products might assist patients and may know the wholesale cost to the clinic but apart from that, I deliberately keep away from being aware of the retail costs of any products.
  • All patients are welcome to import the product direct, or source alternative suppliers.
  • I choose suppliers purely on the safety of supply and benefits that their products offer patients.
  • Any incentives or discounts given by suppliers are passed on to patients
  • We make information available about other suppliers
  • Patients purchase online or from staff at the counter so that there is plenty of opportunity to make an informed unpressured choice about whether they wish to purchase or not.
  • With an external business advisor I constantly review and seek feedback on the systems so that we can practice as ethically as possible in the situation circumstances have created.
